Condition: Good-antique; wood stock has wear & patina commensurate w/ age & use; barrel has mostly gray finish / some scattered rust; breech & lockplate have ddep blue finish w/ some wear & patina & light rust/pitting; bore is mostly bright w/ storng rifling; some light pitting in the bore; mechanically very good & crisp
Includes: 2-leaf rear sight; period correct leather sling; Model 1863 lockplate
Marked: dated "1863" behind the hammer; eagle mark "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD" in front of hammer; breech is marked "1870 / eagle head / US"; barrel & breech have matching serial numbers; buttplate tang marked w/ "US / 18 / 2"

Provenance: Property from the personal estate collection of iconic Texas businessman, civic leader and philanthropist Billy Joe Red McCombs (1927-2023) from his home in Olmos Park, Texas; previously on long-term loan to either San Antonio Academy or the Bexar County Courthouse; this lot is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity as property from the McCombs personal estate
