Marked: lockplate marked "ТУЛА / 1808"; proofs on barrel; buttplate tang is marked w/ Imperial 2-headed eagle crest; buttplate is regiment marked "Б 20. / II. II" (meaning roughly: Weapon No. 20, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Division)
Note from owner: Russian Tula arsenal flintlock musket, dated 1808. Muskets of this type accompanied the Baranov expeditions of settlement and trade to Alaska during the early 19th century. Some of the Russian parties reached as far south as northern California.

Provenance: Property from the personal estate collection of iconic Texas businessman, civic leader and philanthropist Billy Joe Red McCombs (1927-2023) from his home in Olmos Park, Texas; previously on long-term loan to either San Antonio Academy or the Bexar County Courthouse; this lot is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity as property from the McCombs personal estate
