Note from owner:  A. Ballard sporting rifle breech loading, identifier on gun of the 1870 period. The Ballard was one of the strongest, most reliable heavy-caliber actions ever designed. It handled a host of center-fire large caliber cartridges and was favored into the early 20th century by big game hunters and target shooters.
