Note from owner: Full stock Kentucky rifle, percussion by J. Ferree. Percussion Kentucky rifle by J. Ferree, mid-19th century. Makers named J. (or I.) Ferree worked in the eastern Pennsylvania and Ohio during the 1830-1850 period. Their guns were widely used in the course of westward migration. They were ruggedly made pieces.

Provenance: Property from the personal estate collection of iconic Texas businessman, civic leader and philanthropist Billy Joe Red McCombs (1927-2023) from his home in Olmos Park, Texas; previously on long-term loan to either San Antonio Academy or the Bexar County Courthouse; this lot is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity as property from the McCombs personal estate
