Condition: Fair-antique; wood stock has fair amount of wear & repairs; patch on the belly of the forfend; break all around the wrist and some splititng from the butt; barrels have gray/brwon patina w/ scattered rust/pitting; lcokplates have faeded case colros w/ some pitting; bores are lightly pitted w/ worn rifling; right hammer operates, but left does not lock back; left hammer has been replaced
Includes: half octagon/ half round barrels; barss mounting & decorative patch box w/ scrollwork; fowl scenes on lockplates; striped maple stock; wooden ramrod
Marked: lockplates read "JOSH GOLCHER"; no proofs or markings on th barrels or flats; undersid eof stock marked "S201" & "53"
Note from owner:  Very unusual and fine quality American double rifle, 1850-1870, with lock by J. Golcher with beautiful pierced Pennsylvania patchbox in stock. Gun is of general high quality, shows old repairs to stock. Metal in good condition with some dings to the wood. Stock shows high quality fiddleback stripe, one hammer replaced.

Provenance: Property from the personal estate collection of iconic Texas businessman, civic leader and philanthropist Billy Joe Red McCombs (1927-2023) from his home in Olmos Park, Texas; previously on long-term loan to either San Antonio Academy or the Bexar County Courthouse; this lot is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity as property from the McCombs personal estate
