Includes: half-stock w/ intricate silver inlay featuring floral/leaf designs and a shield w/ an arm holding a sword crest; engarved brass eagle mounted above the brass patch box w/ (15) silver inlay stars over the eagles head; empty reaear sight notch on the barrel; lock was converted from flintlock to percussion; wooden ramrod
Marked: lock plate reads "Mason"; top of barrel has name but is illegible; left side of stock is dated "1799" in silver inlay
Note from owner: American officer's fusil/musket; silver inlaid and dated 1799. By the famous early maker Mason of Shrewsbury, Mass. It represents one of the earliest uses of the American National emblem known to exist on a weapon. Such elegant and costly arms were usually owned by affluent, high-ranking militia and regular Army leaders during the first quarter of the 19th century

Provenance: Property from the personal estate collection of iconic Texas businessman, civic leader and philanthropist Billy Joe Red McCombs (1927-2023) from his home in Olmos Park, Texas; previously on long-term loan to either San Antonio Academy or the Bexar County Courthouse; this lot is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity as property from the McCombs personal estate
