Roland Delbert Enright (Texas / Wisconsin, 1921-1983), view of El Capitan in West Texas, oil on canvas
sight: 24 x 30 in., frame: 31 x 37 in.
Provenance: Property from a home in Houston, Texas
Roland Delbert (R.D.) Enright was born in Elkhorn, Wisconsin in 1921. Much of his boyhood was spent drawing and sketching, and his natural love of art eventually led him to a commercial art course. After graduation, he pursued commercial art as a career until World War II took him overseas where he spent 2.5 years in an armored unit. After the war, Enright married and moved to Texas. He began to focus on painting the landscapes around him, encouraged by a growing group of buyers for these works, and art soon became a full time and profitable endeavor. Enright is known especially for the versatility of composition, color, and subject matter in his trademark landscape paintings.
