Glenn Cernosek (Texas, 20th-21st C.), "1851 Colt Navy Revolver", oil on panel, painted from life at the Texas Rangers Museum, where a reproduction of the painting hangs alongside the actual firearm
sight: 9 x 18 in., frame: 13 x 22 in.
Provenance: Property from the collection of the artist, Cedar Park, Texas
"I start my paintings by selecting a subject that I have personally experienced. I paint in layers, called glazes. As the light passes through the layers and bounce back into the viewers eyes, the color you see is more interesting than if I had just mixed those colors together on my palette and then painted that mixed color on the paper. I choose to paint in a realistic style because I enjoy painting detail, often it can put me in a meditative state as I am painting. Hours can pass by quickly. All the detail gives the viewer more to look at. The longer you look at my paintings, the more you will discover." (from the artist's website, www.cernosek.com)
