Condition: Good-antique; wood stock has significnat wear commensurate w/ age; barrel appears to have been reblued at one point, but has some fading & patina; light rust & pitting present; bore has dulled w/ some pitting; NOT CURRENTLY IN A FIRABLE CONFIGURATION; TRAPDDOR FIRING MECHANISM WAS REMOVED FOR PROP FLINTLOCK MECHANISM
Includes: Springfield 1884 stock, barrel, lockplate & parts; brass casted barrel bands & flintlock components to mimick an early 1800s style flintlock; more contemporary style sling
Marked: lockplate has the Springfield eagle stamp; breech is marked "U.S. / MODEL / 1884", top of receiver behind the breech has serial number; barrel is stamped w/ "V / P" / eagle head; left side of stock marked w/ faded "SWP / 1886" cartouche
Note from owner: Hollywood movie prop musket, made from a.45/70 breech loading Springfield rifle to look like a flintlock musket. Many of these pieces were used by John Wayne in filming the movie "The Alamo" in 1960.

Provenance: Property from the personal estate collection of iconic Texas businessman, civic leader and philanthropist Billy Joe Red McCombs (1927-2023) from his home in Olmos Park, Texas; previously on long-term loan to either San Antonio Academy or the Bexar County Courthouse; this lot is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity as property from the McCombs personal estate
