Barrel Length: 32.5 in.
OAL: 48.5 in.
Condition: Good-antique; wood stock has heavy wear & dark patina; barrel & receiver have dark brown patina w/ scattered rust & pitting; bore is mostly bright w/ strong rifling & light pitting; mechanically good
Includes: missing cleaning rod; sling rings; appears to have had Native American tacks at one point; rear elevation sight
Marked: receiver marked eagle / "USN / SPRINGFIELD / 1870"; tang is Remington patent marked; top of barrel has naval anchor stamp; side of barrel reads "P / H.B.R."; lefts ide of stock has "TAUA" carved into it; right side has a large "T" and "II  backward L next to forward L IV A A backward L I"
Note from owner: Remington .50 caliber rolling block rifle. Very popular during 1870's and 80's. Sold by Remington around the world. Donated by the family of Tau-ankia, Kiowa warrior and son of Chief Lone Wolf killed by soldiers in Kickapoo, Texas in 1873. USN Springfield.

Provenance: Property from the personal estate collection of iconic Texas businessman, civic leader and philanthropist Billy Joe Red McCombs (1927-2023) from his home in Olmos Park, Texas; previously on long-term loan to either San Antonio Academy or the Bexar County Courthouse; this lot is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity as property from the McCombs personal estate
