Condition: Fair-antique condition; wood stock is worn w/ a dark patina and some splitting at the wrist; the barrel & frame have a dark brown patina w/ scattered pitting; bore is dark & pitted w/ good rifling; hammer does not lock back without assistance to make sure the trigger mechanism is activated
Includes: missing ramrod; no lance bolt included
Marked: left side of the barrel is marked w/ "2|5 / 2|5" and dots on either end of the line between the numbers
Note from owner:  Percussion whaling gun, brand patent. These guns, patented in 1852, were designed to fire an exploding "bomb-lance" at whale; a definite improvement over trying to kill whales with lances thrown from small boats. They remained quite popular in the Whaling industry for many years, before and after the Civil War.
