Condition: Good-antique; wood stock & forend have moderate wear for age; the cheek comb has been sanded down; forend has darker patina; horn underlveris cracked; buttplate tang is broken and the empty spoace was filled with some horn; barrels have gray/brown patina w/ light rust & pitting; receiver & sideplates have faded case colors w/ gray/brown patina; bores are frosted w/ light pitting, but retain brightness; mechanically good-the right striker pin spring is missing; hammers both lock back
Includes: Damascus twist barrels; silver inlay design next to barrel breech & on the maker mark; scroll engraving throughout the receiver & sideplates; scroll carving on left side of stock; half wood/half steel trigger guard
Marked: barrel rib reads "RIEGER IN MUNCHEN" in silver inlay; underside of barrels have "DV", "170", and "492" markings w/ some obscured proofs (likely German); right side of stock is marked "EZCJ" (likely initials added later)
Provenance: Property from the personal estate collection of iconic Texas businessman, civic leader and philanthropist Billy Joe Red McCombs (1927-2023) from his home in Olmos Park, Texas; previously on long-term loan to either San Antonio Academy or the Bexar County Courthouse; this lot is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity as property from the McCombs personal estate
