Note from owner: Half stock Plains rifle. J. Henry, Phila., treaty rifle. An extremely rare example of high quality "chief's grade" Indian treaty rifle of the 1830's and 40's. The .50 caliber piece was made by a known contractor of such treaty pieces, J. Henry of Philadelphia. The higher quality craftsmanship, as well as the German silver mountings identify this rifle as a "treaty gift" to a person of influence.

Provenance: Property from the personal estate collection of iconic Texas businessman, civic leader and philanthropist Billy Joe Red McCombs (1927-2023) from his home in Olmos Park, Texas; previously on long-term loan to either San Antonio Academy or the Bexar County Courthouse; this lot is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity as property from the McCombs personal estate
