Model: half-stock Plains rifle
Caliber: 63 cal.
Barrel Length: 32.5 in.
OAL: 48 in.
Condition: Good-antique; wood stock has been sanded & refinished; very light wear w/ small split around sideplate screw; barrel has gray/brwon patina w/ some pitting; lockplate has dark brown patina w/ pitting; bore is dark & pitted; mechanically functional
Includes: beautiful curly tiger striped maple wood stock (refinished); US Model 1803 barrel; wooden ramrod
Marked: lockplate reads "R. ASHMORE / WARRANTED"; barrel slant marked w/ upside down "2386"  and "US" stamp next to eagle head / "P"
Note from owner:  Kentucky percussion Plains rifle, circa 1840. Although unsigned, this heavy large caliber weapon was crafted using a u. S. Model 1803 rifle barrel, the model carried on the Lewis and Clark expedition.

Provenance: Property from the personal estate collection of iconic Texas businessman, civic leader and philanthropist Billy Joe Red McCombs (1927-2023) from his home in Olmos Park, Texas; previously on long-term loan to either San Antonio Academy or the Bexar County Courthouse; this lot is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity as property from the McCombs personal estate
