-pistol: Good-antique; wood handle has light wear for age; inlay has wear & some losses; brass barrel & frame haave nice wear & patina; the cock is broken; not currently mechanically functional
-cutlass: blade is rust & pitted w/ worn engraving; brass guard is worn w/ dark patina; tortoise handlke has some wear & chipping
Includes: brass barrel & frame w/ engraving; silver wire inlay on wood handle; spring bayonet; missing ramrod
-late 18th century German-style cutlass saber w/ tortoise handle & brass guard, featuring sun & crescent moon engarvings typical of 18th c. Solingen blades. (likely Solingen/German blade used for American cutlass)
-mounted on driftwood plank w/ bone carved fish & anchor mountings
Marked: no visible markings
Note from owner:  Flintlock blunderbuss pistol with old cutlass mounted on a board. These weapons were reputedly associated with American privatizing voyages during the War of 1812. The pistol is English, c. 1790. The sword appears to have been American made during the same period.

Provenance: Property from the personal estate collection of iconic Texas businessman, civic leader and philanthropist Billy Joe Red McCombs (1927-2023) from his home in Olmos Park, Texas; previously on long-term loan to either San Antonio Academy or the Bexar County Courthouse; this lot is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity as property from the McCombs personal estate
