Marked: top of the receiver reads "SPENCER REPEATING / RIFLE CO. BOSTON, MASS / PAT'D MARCH 6, 1860." (faded); stock cartouche on left side behind saddle bar appears to read "FJL" (hard to make out exactly); "Y" on stock behind the trigger tang
Note from owner:  Spencer rifle Model, 1860. The popular Spencer became the standard weapon of the union cavalry during the Civil War. The confederates called it the gun "you loaded on Sunday and fired all week!' This is a carbine version.
