Model: percussion Officer's Fusil (likely later converted from flintlock)
Caliber: 65 cal.
Barrel Length: 40 in.
OAL: 56 in.
Condition: Very good-antique; wood stock has light-moderate wear for age; repaired chip on the underside of the lock plate; split on the left side of the butt; barrel has a plum brown patina w/ some rust/pitting; bore is rusted throughout; mechanically functional
Includes: beautiful lightweight burl wood stock w/ checkered wrist & forend; cheek comb; flat butt; silver mountings featuring a Liberty pole & cap w/ a 14-star US flag ( indicating the statehood of Vermont) and an eagle perched on the top; light engraving scrollwork; 2/3 round and 1/3 octagonal barrel; ramrod; early dried hide shot bag & powder horn
Marked: lock-plate reads "R. / ASHMORE / WARRANTED"; top of barrel reads "A. WHALEY"; silver name plate on wrist marked w/ initial "W"
Note from owner: Percussion officers fusil by Whaley, silver inlay. These weapons are usually highly decorated (usually with patriotic designs) weapons favored by high-ranking militia officer of the early 19th century.

Provenance: Property from the personal estate collection of iconic Texas businessman, civic leader and philanthropist Billy Joe Red McCombs (1927-2023) from his home in Olmos Park, Texas; previously on long-term loan to either San Antonio Academy or the Bexar County Courthouse; this lot is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity as property from the McCombs personal estate
