Condition: Good-antique; wood stock has significant wear & patina from extensive use & age; barrel & lockplate have mostly gray patina w/ heavy scattered pitting & rust; bore is dark & pitted w/ faint rifling; mechanically good
Includes: sling swivels; ramrod; elevation rear sight; brass trigegr guard
Marked: lockplate has crown stamp behind the hammer & "1863 / TOWER" in front; barrel is marked w/ proof - "25" - proof - "25" - proof
Note from owner: Tower rifle, early 1860's. One of the primary issue weapons during the Civil War, many thousands were issued to Union and Confederate troops.

Provenance: Property from the personal estate collection of iconic Texas businessman, civic leader and philanthropist Billy Joe Red McCombs (1927-2023) from his home in Olmos Park, Texas; previously on long-term loan to either San Antonio Academy or the Bexar County Courthouse; this lot is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity as property from the McCombs personal estate
