Condition: Very good-antique; the wood stock is in spectacular condition for the age of the weapon with only some slight splitting behind the sideplate; barrel * lockplate have a bare gray metal color w/ light pitting; bore has deep rifling w/ some rusting; mechanically excellent
Includes: beautiful carved stock w/ light scroll designs and extensive bone inlay with floral scrimshaw work; horn buttplate; brass trigger guard; ramrod has bone scrimshaw tip; stock compartment door has bone inlay w/ scrimshaw as well
Marked:top of the barrel has a brass inset with a swan and "E" punched stamp; bone panel on the lft side of the cheek rest appears to have a hooked "1" or some other symbol followed by "708"
Provenance: Property from the personal estate collection of iconic Texas businessman, civic leader and philanthropist Billy Joe Red McCombs (1927-2023) from his home in Olmos Park, Texas; previously on long-term loan to either San Antonio Academy or the Bexar County Courthouse; this lot is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity as property from the McCombs personal estate
