Kenneth Bunn (Colorado, 1938-2020), "Motion Detector", artist-cast bronze sculpture, ed. 7/35, dated 2008

height 14.5 in. x width 30 in. x depth 7 in.

Provenance: Property from a home in the Alamo Heights neighborhood of San Antonio, Texas

Kenneth Bunn began his career as a taxidermist and museum display artist. He trained rigorously, auditing anatomy classes at the University of Utah, apprenticing at the National Museum of Natural History, and studying for four years under Hungarian sculptor Coloman Jonas. Bunn’s work is known for its vitality and implied motion, often exaggerating gestures to capture the spirit of his subjects rather than strict anatomical accuracy. He studied extensively in the field in North America, Africa, and Europe. Bunn's sculptures are held in major museums, including the Royal Ontario Museum, Gilcrease Museum, Eiteljorg Museum, National Museum of Wildlife Art, and the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, and he created monumental installations at sites such as the University of Kentucky and Century Bank in Santa Fe. Bunn was recognized as an Academician of the National Academy of Design, a Fellow of the National Sculpture Society, and won a bronze medal at the National Sculpture Society Show in New York, cementing his reputation as a leading animal sculptor of his generation.
