sight: 7 x 9 in., frame: 12.5 x 15 in.
Provenance: Property from an Arlington, Texas collection
Jose Antonio Velasquez was a self-taught Honduran artist whose work depicts typical Honduran street scenes, distinctly stylized and usually portrayed from a high vantage point. Often lauded among the first American Primitive painters, Velasquez was included in the first Lain American Art Biennale of 1951. His life and art served as inspiration for the film "The World of a Primitive Painter" (1973), which increased his exposure and collectability worldwide.
