Serial: 96007
Manufacturer: Colt's PT. F.A. Mfg. Co. (c. 1880)
Model: 1873 Single Action Army (black powder frame)
Caliber: 45 LC
Barrel Length: 7.5 in.
OAL: 13 in.
Condition: Good-refinished antique; walnut grips are in very good shape (likely refinished); refinished in nickel throughout (letter lists it as blue finish); moderate wear w/ light peppered pitting in some spots; bore is frosted w/ light pitting; strong rifling remains; 4 distinct "COLT" clicks; well-timed action; tight cylinder lock-up; mechanically excellent
Includes: Colt factory letter indicating this revolver was sold to the U.S. government and shipped on July 20, 1880 with 150 other similar guns.
-The letter also notes that this serial number comes back to another SAA in 44/40 with a 5 1/2 inch barrel, blue finish & rubber stocks, and was shipped to Simmons Hardware Co. in St. Louis, MO on August 15, 1883 in a shipment of 50 guns.
Note: Condemned Colt SAA revolvers were often refinished by retailers when they were sold to them by the US government, so the nickel refinish lines up with that, since it appears to be an early refinish.
Marked: "U.S." on left side of frame; multiple parts marked w/ "D.F.C." inspector proof (David F. Clark, 1861-1886); underside of barrel marked w/ "P" over inspector mark; underside of frame marked w/ "C" over inspector mark; trigger guard marked w/ "G" under serial number; cylinder marked "P"; matching serial numbers on frame, trigger guard, backstrap butt; & cylinder
