Gladys Roldan-de-Moras is a classically trained painter whose colorful work reflects her Colombian and Mexican heritage and seeks to capture both the essence of a moment and the deeper message within it. After initially studying medicine, she moved to Austin in 1984 and earned her degree from the University of Texas before pursuing art through extensive workshop study with leading artists including Daniel Gerhartz, Morgan Weistling, George Strickland, Frank LaLumia, Daniel Greene, Richard Schmid, Kevin Macpherson, Sherrie McGraw, and Ken Backhaus, with Gerhartz cited as a particularly influential teacher. Working primarily in oil while also demonstrating proficiency in pastel, watercolor, pencil, and charcoal, Roldan-de-Moras combines classical realism with a vibrant, expressive sensitivity to color and frequently paints en plein air. Her honors include the Artist Magazine Award for Excellence in Painting from Oil Painters of America, the Julian Onderdonk Memorial Purchase Award from the San Antonio Art League, the Grumbacher Award, and Artist of the Year from the Coppini Academy of Fine Arts. Her work is held in collections including the University of Texas at San Antonio, the San Antonio Art League Museum, and the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, and she has exhibited and taught widely while being featured in television and numerous publications.
