Provenance: Property from a Tucson, Arizona art and antiques collector
Alfredo Rodriguez, born in Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico, grew up in a large family where he began painting as a child, using watercolors to illustrate school assignments and family portraits. He moved to North America in 1973 after an American art dealer commissioned him to paint American Indians, and he has since focused on vivid, realistic depictions of Native Americans, mountain men, and cowboys in the landscapes of the West. Trained primarily through early practice and professional mentorship, Rodriguez combines Classical Realism with touches of Impressionism. His work has been widely exhibited, including invitational shows like Masters of the American West at the Autry Museum in Los Angeles, and is held in permanent collections at the Favell Museum of Western Art, Leanin’ Tree Museum, and Booth Museum. He has received numerous awards, including Favell Museum’s “Artist of the Year” in 1991, and his paintings have been featured in publications such as Art of the West, Western Horseman, and the books Western Painting Today and Contemporary Western Artists.
