Bill Moyers graduated with a degree in fine arts from Adams State Teachers College in Alamosa in 1939 and later studied at the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles with E. Roscoe Shraeder, a pupil of renowned illustrator Howard Pyle. He also worked for Walt Disney Studios for a year on Fantasia. In illustration, Moyers won an American Artist magazine competition for illustrating an Owen Wister novel, helping launch his professional career. A member of the Cowboy Artists of America since 1968 and later a member Emeritus, he has received numerous gold and silver medals for his work in painting and sculpture. His work is represented in major collections including the Gilcrease Institute in Tulsa, the National Cowboy Hall of Fame, the Albuquerque Museum, and the Cowboy Artists of America collection in Kerrville, and has been featured in prestigious publications including Cowboy in Art and Bronzes of the American West.
