Vladan Stiha (Yugoslavia / New Mexico, 1908-1992), "Taos Pueblo", oil on canvas panel, signed lower right

sight: 5 x 7 in., frame: 11.5 x 13.5 in.

Provenance: Property from an Austin, Texas collector

Vladan Stiha received his earliest artistic training from his father, a member of an artistic family, and began his formal education in Belgrade before studying at the Academy of Arts in Vienna and the Academy of Art in Rome. After developing his distinctive impressionistic style in Argentina and experimenting with Cubism in Brazil, Stiha immigrated to the United States and settled in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he opened the Stiha Gallery at the historic La Fonda Hotel in 1971. His work as a colorist and portrait painter earned him representation in the collections of numerous prominent museums and institutions, including the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., the Museum of New Mexico in Santa Fe, the Museum of the Southwest in Midland, Texas, the Pioneer Museum in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the Oklahoma Museum of Art, and the Fort Huachuca Historic Museum in Arizona.
