Provenance: Property from a home in San Antonio, Texas
Stan Davis is a photo-realist painter known for his meticulously detailed oil paintings depicting 19th-century Native American life, particularly that of the Blackfoot, Sioux, and Cheyenne tribes. Raised near Tallahassee, Florida, Davis developed an early fascination with Native American culture and a strong talent for drawing, which led him to study at the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, where he graduated with honors. After a career in advertising—including serving as art director for a top Los Angeles agency—Davis was inspired during a 1979 visit to Scottsdale, Arizona, to focus his art on Native American themes. Committed to historical accuracy, he studied museum artifacts, traveled across the American Northwest and Canada, and learned traditional costume-making techniques, which he applies by hand-making every outfit featured in his work. His paintings are known for their authenticity, cultural respect, and high level of realism.
