Slim Aarons (Amer., 1916-2006), "Poolside Gossip", C-type print on archival Fuji Color Crystal paper, with Getty Images Archive blindstamp, not framed
image: 30 x 40 in.
Photograph taken in 1970 at the Kaufmann Desert House (Palm Springs, California), home of Nelda Linsk (in yellow, on right) who poses with her friend Helen Dzo Dzo as actress Lita Baron approaches.
"Slim came over with a tripod and his camera. There were no assistants, no makeup artists, no hairstylist, nothing. We just put on the clothes we had in our closets. Very casual. In fact, if I’d known then what I know today, I might have dressed up a little more.’ The whole thing, says Nelda, 'took about an hour.’”
Rather than artificially posing his subjects, Slim Aarons won the trust of celebrities such as Gary Cooper, Mick Jagger, and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and photographed them in private moments of leisure. Or as Aarons described his oeuvre: "attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places."
