Robert Wood (Texas / California, 1889-1979), Texas autumn landscape, oil on canvas, signed lower left

sight: 25 x 30 in., frame: 32 x 37 in.

Provenance: Property from a Fredericksburg, Texas collection

A painter of realistic landscapes reflecting a vanishing wilderness in America, Robert Wood traveled extensively all over the United States, especially in the West, California and Colorado, often in freight cars, and also painted in Mexico and Canada. In the late 1920s and early 1930s, he lived in San Antonio, Texas. He gained a national reputation for his strong colored, dramatic paintings.
