Republic of Texas "loyalty oath", dated December 25th, 1837, label to verso reading "in which Henry Manton swears that he did not leave Texas to avoid fighting in the Revolution, and that he did not aid the Mexicans. These oaths, required as a pre-requisite to receiving land grants in Texas have all but disappeared and are greatly sought after by collectors. Also signed by A.
