Condition: Fair-antique; small pressure dents, scratches & gouges, chip missing from corner of left side of grips; dark patina throughout brass components with some light dents & scratches, very light verdigris on some edges; barrel, cylinder & frame have turned mostly gray with scattered pitting, sporadic scratches & some light gouges; bore is frosted & pitted throughout 
Marked: "FMS" on butt; "From FM Stone to R Alexander" on backstrap; "From R Alexander to Miss Pauline Orr" on right side of grips; matching serial numbers on barrel, frame, trigger guard, butt, cylinder & wedge
Notes: mechanical issue, trigger does not release hammer; weak action
Notes from owner: revolver of the Civil War period, presented to the famous Mississippi suffragette Pauline Orr. Ms. Orr was one of the founders of the Mississippi State College for Women and participated in the late 19th and early 20th century suffrage "women's vote" movements. Such weapons, presented to women are extremely rare. This specimen is featured in the recent book, Women at Arms, Silk and Steel, by R.L. Wilson

Provenance: Property from the personal estate collection of iconic Texas businessman, civic leader and philanthropist Billy Joe "Red" McCombs (1927-2023) from his home in Olmos Park, Texas; previously on long-term loan to either San Antonio Academy or the Bexar County Courthouse; this lot is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity as property from the McCombs personal estate
