Sanders (1812–1873), and supported of Confederate States of America, and whose son, Major Reid Sanders (1837–1864),served in the CSA; was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Fort Lafayette, and subsequently died at Fort Warren in 1864; George was believed by some to have a level of involvement in the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln
