Marked: "lockplate reads "H. WILLIAM"; barrel reads "H Turner Albany" in cursive script; brass patch box door marked "Liberty" in cusrive script
Note from owner:  A very early War of 1812 period half-stock Kentucky rifle by Henry Turner of Albany, N.Y. Turner was active between 1810 and 1825. His weapons were suberbly crafted. The ornate, sculpted brass patchbox of this rifle is inscribed "Liberty". The fine rifle, originally made as a flintlock, was converted to the percussion system during the 1830's.

Provenance: Property from the personal estate collection of iconic Texas businessman, civic leader and philanthropist Billy Joe Red McCombs (1927-2023) from his home in Olmos Park, Texas; previously on long-term loan to either San Antonio Academy or the Bexar County Courthouse; this lot is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity as property from the McCombs personal estate
