Condition: Fair-antique; bone grips have shrunk substantially & have yellow patina & few chips; barrel, fram e& cylinder all have dark brown patina w/ sigbificnat wear & faded markings; brass trigger guard & backstrap are worn w/ nice aged patina; bore is dark & pitted; mechanically functional, but fairly clunky
Includes: antique bone gripps w/ eagle/serpent carving ion right grip panel; buffalo hide holster; frame screws all appear to be replacements; some work appears to have been done on the ramrod
Marked: standard barrel address reads "-ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW YORK U.S. AMERICA-"; all numbers matching except barrel pin wedge
Note from owner:  Tate family Colt M1851 Navy revolver in original buffalo hide holster. Ivory grips complete with carvings. The "Colt Navy" pistol saw much service on the Western Frontier during the second half of the 19th Century. (no documentation showing connection to a Tate family)

Provenance: Property from the personal estate collection of iconic Texas businessman, civic leader and philanthropist Billy Joe Red McCombs (1927-2023) from his home in Olmos Park, Texas; previously on long-term loan to either San Antonio Academy or the Bexar County Courthouse; this lot is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity as property from the McCombs personal estate
