Includes: octagonal barrel w/ gold inlay; light engraving on lockplate; ramord w/ bone tip
Marked: lockplate reads "PROBIN"; top of barrel has gold inlay stamp marked "PROBIN / HULL" and another gold round marked "Death"
Note from owner:  Flintlock pistol by Probing of London, marked "death" in gold on the barrel. A superb example of an English gentleman's dueling or "holster" pistol, one can only speculate on this most unusual and macabre marking. The pistol dates from 1780 - 1810 period.

Provenance: Property from the personal estate collection of iconic Texas businessman, civic leader and philanthropist Billy Joe Red McCombs (1927-2023) from his home in Olmos Park, Texas; previously on long-term loan to either San Antonio Academy or the Bexar County Courthouse; this lot is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity as property from the McCombs personal estate
