Rebecca Tobey began her sculpting career in Santa Fe, New Mexico, working in both bronze and ceramic. She developed a distinctive style known for strong, simple animal forms covered with detailed sgraffito carvings of symbols, figures, and scenes that reflect spiritual and cultural themes. After marrying fellow sculptor Gene Tobey in 1985, they collaborated for the next 20 years until his death from leukemia in 2006. Her major public commissions include the six-foot bronze bear "Pathfinder" (1994) at Western State College in Colorado and the 15-foot "Spirit Walker" (2000) at Baylor University in Texas. Her work has been commissioned for public and private collections in the United States and abroad, and she exhibits in Santa Fe, Sedona, Vail, and Red Lodge.
