Raul Gutierrez is known for his depictions of solitude on the plains of Texas and the American West. Gutierrez showed talent early, earning an art scholarship to the Warren Hunter School of Commercial and Fine Arts in San Antonio. He is noted for his intense research in the pursuit of representing historical subject matter with authentic detail, and has been widely collected by notable Texans including President Lyndon B. Johnson, Texas Governor John Connally, and musician George Strait.
