Pedro Lazcano (Mexico / Texas, 1909-1970), Texas autumn scene, oil on canvas
sight: 20 x 24 in., frame: 28 x 32 in.
Provenance: Property from a home in San Antonio, Texas
Born in the village of Villa Del Carmen outside of Mexico City, Pedro Lazcano moved to San Antonio, Texas when he was 3 years old and attended the Navarro School. As an adult, he was an embosser and ran the printing press for Pabst Engraving Company, which also had a gallery on the second floor selling works by Porfirio Salinas, Dawson Dawson-Watson, Robert Wood and others. Lazcano was a friend/associate of Porfirio Salinas and they would take sketching trips together, as mentioned by Salinas' daughter. He would sell his paintings of Downtown San Antonio to business people to hang in their offices. Beginning in the late '50s or early '60s he painted full time for the remainder of his life.
