Olin Travis was a Texas-born artist and educator known for his vibrant landscapes, Dallas city scenes, and figure studies. He received early instruction from several Dallas artists before enrolling in the Art Institute of Chicago in 1909, where he studied for five years and later became an associate instructor. His notable teachers included Kenyon Cox and Joaquin Sorolla y Bastida. After returning to Dallas in 1924, he co-founded the Dallas Art Institute and later the Ozark Summer School of Painting. Travis also taught at various institutions throughout Texas and was active in plein air painting excursions, including with Frank Reaugh's sketching caravan. His long career blended artistic production with a deep commitment to teaching.
