Melvin Charles Warren (Texas / California, 1920-1995), cowboy on horseback, charcoal on paper, signed lower left

sight: 9 x 6 in., frame: 17 x 13.5 in.

Provenance: Property from a Fredericksburg, Texas collection

Melvin Warren's work, encompassing almost every medium, is an accomplished artistic statement that also remains faithful to Western reality. After service in World War II, Warren entered Texas Christian University and received a degree in Fine Arts. He joined the Cowboy Artists of America in 1968 and won their Memorial Award in his very first exhibition with them. He became a special favorite of Lyndon Johnson who ultimately acquired many Warren oils.
