Mel Gerhold (Nebraska, 1928-2015), "Weather or Not", oil on panel, signed lower right

sight: 22 x 28 in., frame: 33 x 39 in.

Provenance: Property from a home in Houston, Texas

Mel Gerhold graduated from the Maryland Institute of Fine Arts in 1955, where he studied under Jacque Maroger, formerly of the Louvre in Paris, while beginning his professional painting career in 1949 and teaching private art classes in Maryland. After moving west, first to Nebraska and later to Wyoming, he developed a strong focus on Western art, drawing extensively from firsthand experience and ranch life rather than photographs. His work is represented in permanent collections including the Sangre de Cristo Museum in Pueblo, the University of Nebraska, the Harmsen’s Collection of Western Art, Amerikus Insurance Company, and the U.S. National Park Visitors Center at Agate Ranch, Nebraska, and has been featured in Art of the West, Western Horseman, Wild West, America’s Civil War, and Leanin’ Tree Christmas Cards.
