Mark Coreth (United Kingdom, b. 1958), leopard's head sculpture, artist-cast bronze sculpture on continuous bronze base, with incised signature and edition number 3/9, freestanding

height 18.5 in. x width 10 in. x depth 16 in. (including base)

Provenance: Property from a home in New York, New York

Mark Coreth had no formal artistic training but developed a strong interest in sculpture independently, drawing on his childhood in Kenya and lifelong fascination with nature and the animal world. While serving as an army officer, he held his first solo exhibition at Sladmore Gallery in London in 1986, and after retiring from military service in 1993, became a full-time sculptor. His work is characterized by a dynamic sensitivity to the movement, grace, and power of animals and other subjects, and has been exhibited in London, New York, and Paris. Coreth has also completed major public commissions, including a life-size boatman figure outside Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, a shoal of rays in London’s Docklands, and a fifty-piece fountain at the Natural History Museum, with his sculpture represented in numerous public and private collections worldwide.
