Margaret Putnam was known for her innovative techniques, her love of brilliant color and willingness to 'break and make the rules to achieve a desired effect.' She continued to work full time even after becoming partially paralyzed from Lou Gehrig's disease. Her mural at the top of the San Antonio Hilton Hotel is an example of her large-size work. Awards across Texas include: River Art Show, San Antonio 1956-57, Beaumont Museum Purchase Award, Texas Fine Arts Museum Purchase Award 1958, Texas Watercolor Society, Award, 1968-72; 1974, 1976, 1979, 1981 San Antonio Art League, San Antonio, Outstanding Artist of the Year Texas Fine Arts, Three-Time Winner of Top Award for Oils San Antonio Business Committee for the Arts, Recipient of the Year Award.
