Jose Vives-Atsara (Spain / San Antonio, Texas, 1919-2004), "Flores", oil on masonite, with inscription and title to verso, not dated sight: 26 x 20 in., frame: 34 x 27 Provenance: Property from the collection of a San Antonio, Texas gentleman Jose Vives-Atsara was Spanish-born artist, who immigrated to the United States after living through the Spanish Civil War, settling in San Antonio, Texas, with his wife and child in 1947. Vives-Atsara's drew inspiration from his community and environment, drawing inspiration from the San Antonio missions and the San Antonio River, working in a style that met at the apex of realism and impressionism, with his career including receiving commissions to create artworks for Pop John Paul II and heads of state, and becoming a professor and artist-in-residence at San Antonio's Incarnate Word College.
