Jose Vives-Atsara was Spanish-born artist, who immigrated to the United States after living through the Spanish Civil War, settling in San Antonio, Texas, with his wife and child in 1947. Vives-Atsara drew inspiration from his community and environment in San Antonio, like the Missions and the San Antonio River, working in a style that met at the apex of realism and impressionism.
