Jose Guadalupe Guadiana received his Bachelor of Science degree in Medicine from the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon in Monterrey, Mexico in 1946; a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas in 1972; and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1979. Guadiana also studied Muralism from Pablo O'Higgins at La Esmeralda, and drawing and watercolors with Orozco Romero. He was Diego Rivera's assistant on public commissions from 1953-1954. At the same time he also worked with David Alfaro Siqueiros on the Mexico Secretary of Education mural. He taught at the Universidad Autonoma de Tamaulipas before moving to San Antonio, Texas in 1966 and becoming a US citizen in 1972.
