Jim Gilmore (Colorado, b. 1950), "Fishing Buddies", artist-cast bronze sculpture atop stone slab and rotating wooden base, with incised signature and edition number 49/60

height 15.5 in. x width 14 in. x depth 10 in. (including base)

Originally purchased from a gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico, circa 1990s

Jim Gilmore is a self-taught wildlife artist who developed his skills through lifelong firsthand experience growing up on a cattle ranch in southern Colorado and through his work in taxidermy, which gave him an in-depth understanding of animal anatomy and behavior. Since 1985, he has concentrated primarily on bronze sculpture, personally participating in the molding, casting, patination, and finishing of his works. His sculptures combine accurate anatomy and finely observed detail with strong composition, informed by extensive time spent in the mountains researching and photographing wildlife. Gilmore has exhibited at major Western and wildlife art events including Safari Club International in Reno, the Foundation for North American Wild Sheep in Reno, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation in Seattle, the Collectors Society Western and Wildlife Art Show in Minneapolis, the Rocky Mountain Bighorn Society in Denver, and the Southwestern Perspectives Art Show in Denver.
