Herman Walker (Texas, b. 1944), "When the Days Get Long", oil on panel
sight: 14 x 18 in., frame: 23 x 27 in.
Provenance: Property from a Port Aransas, Texas home
Herman Walker spent his formative years in the ranching country of West Texas. He received his degree in Animal Science from Texas Tech University. While at Tech, he became very interested in the art of sculpting. After graduation, Herman worked for a manufacturing firm and in his spare time concentrated on learning casting techniques. In 1973, Herman and his family moved to Kerrville and opened a gallery and foundry. It was here that his art career began to blossom and he began painting. After the market downturn of the 1980s, Herman turned to construction work to offset his expenses. His business quickly flourished, and he spent the next twenty years doing remodels and new constructions. He was finally able to refocus fully on painting when he retired in Kerrville, Texas.
