Florent Baecke (Texas, 1922-2016), "Spanish Governor's Palace", oil on canvas, signed lower left
sight: 24 x 36 in., frame: 30 in. x 42 in.
Provenance: Property from a Fort Worth, Texas collection
Florent P. Baecke was a native of San Antonio, Texas. He developed his natural artistic ability at an early age largely through study and observation. He had a profound love for San Antonio and its historical and picturesque structures and landscapes. Although his works are not always traditionally Western, they capture the flavor of the region in which he lives and works. It is for this style, which he did mostly with a palette knife, that he became well known and sought after by collectors. Baecke won several awards for his portrayal of familiar scenes of San Antonio and the Texas countryside. Among them are Coppini Academy of Fine Arts "Artist of the Year", and "Best Traditional Painting".
