Finis Collins is well known for his plein-air watercolors in addition to his brush and pallette knife techniques with oils on canvas. He has been an instructor at Trinity University, the San Antonio Craft Center and the San Antonio Art Institute. Collins is one of the Founding Members of the "Watercolor Gang" established in 1964 in San Antonio, Texas, and was even named Artist of the Year by the San Antonio Art League in 1984. He created the iconic logo for the San Antonio Spurs basketball team in 1973, which depicts an actual spur in place of the letter U.
